Sorry im too lazy to read al the old posts, might be in there somewhere but was playing at a tournament on Sunday and was told that the Avenue BC Won the toss in the first final, two skips keep the mat and other two skips give it away first end. Thats not legal is it? Only got told it happened, not sure 100% THeir been doing it all year I was told.

As I understand it once a manager has chosen that decision stands for all rinks for the first end and the mat can't be given away.

Laws of the Sport of Bowls say....

18.2 Tossing for opening play
1 The managers in a side game (or, in their absence, representatives of the sides), skips in a team game or opponents in Singles should toss a coin.
2 The winner of the toss should choose whether to:

place the mat and deliver the jack and the first bowl; or
tell the opposing player to place the mat and deliver the jack and the first bowl (the opposing player cannot refuse).

3 The option chosen by the manager or representative who wins the toss in a side game will apply to all teams or Singles players (or a combination of teams and Singles players) who make up the side.

Hang on, are you saying that the manager decides if they will keep the mat for the first end and not each rink? Never done that in pennant before.

Sure does, the manager decides for the entire side for the first end. And for an extra end if required.
Big results require big ambitions.

But any Manager worth their salt will have asked the skips their preference beforehand!

Are you telling us Jordan, that the RVBA (or is that the VLBA?) have been ignoring/over-riding Law 18.2 for the past couple of years by having the Skips on each rink in Pennants toss to decide who has the mat?

I think Jordan is saying that he didn't know the way that rule was to be implemented himself
I'll never be a good example so I might as well be a great warning !!

I didn't know that the manager decided whether they would keep the mat or not. I thought the toss meant that each rink therefore were able to make the individual decision.

Jordan that is amazing

The managers decide the mat and no each team does not get to choose. OOps  I saw what Michaelw put.

Didn't you notice that all the teams either had the mat or didn't  Big coincidence every week

Doesn't matter whether it is RVBA or VLBA that is the rule

Is this rule in or out next year, lots and lots of talk but can't find a formal decision.

(Hopefully) this is one of the Rule changes that World Bowls will consider and approve at their meeting in Delhi coinciding with the Commonwealth Games in India in October of this year.

I will take a punt that by the time a formal decision is made, and formally distributed to all the Member Nations, that it will (formally) become Law for each Member Nation's bowls season commencing after 31 December 2010. If I'm right (and I did think I was wrong once!), we will be playing under amended Laws for the season 2011-12.
